2012 Thursday Night Sportsman's Series Results
Thursday September 20th and 27th Lake Lee
The Carolina Crankers have enjoyed a wonderful Thursday Night Sportsman's Series this year. The club rotated between Lake Monroe and Lake Lee this season. Every angler agreed that this year was more competitive. Monthly changes seemed to be just what the doctor ordered. While relaxing the heavy fishing pressure generally placed solely on Lake Monroe, teams managed larger fish and wider smiles. The Carolina Crankers would like to thank Mr. Byrd from Lake Monroe and Wes from Lake Lee for giving our club the opportunity to compete on both lakes this season. Your time has been greatly appreciated by everyone! We look forward to continuing our series next April at both lakes. Congratulations to Mike Love for his win on September 20th at Lake Lee. Mike weighed a five fish limit totaling 14lbs. and 10ozs. We would also like to congratulate club directors Lisa and Rodney May for their first victory of the season. Lisa and Rodney finished out the Sportsman's Series in style with a five fish limit weighing 15lbs. and 14ozs. Great job to all our club members this season and we hope to see you next April as we begin our 2013 Thursday Night Sportsman's Series. Until then...keep 'em hooked!!!
Thursday September 13th Lake Lee
Batman and Robin socked it to the bass on Lake Lee this week. The dynamic duo combined for a five fish limit. Most teams are productive at Lake Lee this month. All season this little Union County lake has put up great numbers. Mike Love and Ronnie Rushing weighed in 14lbs. and 12ozs. to take the victory. Congratulations Batman and Robin. The Carolina Crankers would like to welcome newcomer Albert Gaddy! Albert weighed in four largemouth for an impressive 8lbs. and 14ozs! Join The Carolina Crankers as we close out the Thursday Night Sportsman's Series this month at Lake Lee.
Thursday September 6th Lake Lee
Harold Knight (Doc) and Shawn Knight (Hollywood) returned to Lake Lee this week and never missed a beat. Lake Lee welcomed the Sportsman's Series back this week with a strong September bite. After a two week break, anglers were ready to get back to the action. Lake Lee did not disappoint. Harold and Shawn sacked five Lake Lee largemouth. After a solid month of single fish weigh-ins, Doc and Hollywood rocked the scales with 13lbs. and 12ozs! Congratulations Harold and Shawn! Join us next week as we continue our series on Lake Lee. Until then...keep 'em hooked!
Thursday August 16th Lake Monroe
The Carolina Crankers continued to dominate Lake Monroe this Thursday night. With the slowest bite in possibly three years, anglers confidence has been put to the test repeatedly this season on Lake Monroe. Most members agree that the fun is gone. On a lake known for lunker largemouth the solo fish catches test even the most diehard fishermen. This week veteran members Mike Love and Ronnie Rushing, (Batman and Robin), tracked down the solo bite for the win. Batman and Robin weighed one fish totaling 1lb. and 8ozs. At $120 that fish is almost as precious as gold! Congratulations Mike and Ronnie! The Carolina Crankers will be taking a two week break and will continue our Sportsman's Series on Lake Lee on the first Thursday in September. Until then...keep 'em hooked!
Thursday August 9th Lake Monroe
The Lake Monroe curse strikes again! It was another slow night this Thursday as anglers struggled to find a bite. Wednesday night's storms dropped over 3" of water on the Monroe area. A mudline of 2 1/2 feet on the shoreline bushes and trees proved to be too much for the small lake to recover from overnight. At nights' end it was Tom Streeter, better known as Superman, bringing home the tournaments' only fish. Superman brought in 1lb. and 6ozs. We would like to congratulate Superman for his win this week! Join us next week as we continue to crush the scales at Lake Monroe!
Thursday August 2nd Lake Monroe
The Carolina Crankers returned to Lake Monroe this Thursday night anxious for hefty summer largemouths. Lake Monroe has consistently produced trophy quality fish over the last few years. Tonight would be the exception! Mike Love "Batman" caught a solo bank-burner for the first place win this evening. I can't honestly list the weight of this monster because we didn't need the scales! Best guess would put the fish at 1lb 12ozs. but to Batman, it's a lunker! Most believe the bite was stalled by an impressive front moving in on Monroe that brought torrential rains and some of the most breath-taking lightning storms we've seen in years. Congratulations Batman! Join us next week as we continue our Sportsman's Series on Lake Monroe. Until then...keep 'em hooked!
Thursday July 26th Lake Lee
Attention all anglers, it's crankbait time again! It's been a while since anglers could find a dependable crankin' bite. The bite has been slowly getting stronger on Lake Lee this month. Now that The Carolina Crankers are heading to Lake Monroe next week, all strategies will need to be replaced! This week it was the crankbait king himself, Harold Knight with his son Shawn Knight grabbing the top spot with a nice five fish limit. "Doc" and "Hollywood" hit the scales with 9lbs. and 10ozs. We would like to congratulate Harold and Shawn on their win tonight! We would also like to thank our dedicated members who participate every week regardless of the heat and inclement weather! You make us proud to be Carolina Crankers! Join The Carolina Crankers next Thursday as we continue our Sportsman's Series on Lake Monroe.
Thursday July 19th Lake Lee
Superman is back! With his second Lake Lee victory of the season he has proved that his home lake is no longer his kryptonite. In what has been a very stormy week in Union county, anglers knew that tonight would be no exception. The Carolina Crankers hit the water at 4:30pm this Thursday with very hot and muggy conditions. All teams knew that they had to find the quick bite before the weather forced them off the lake. Sure enough, by 6:30pm heavy storms and lightning had moved over the lake. Anglers scrambled to reach the safety of the boathouse. In came Superman sporting that tell-tell smile! Tom Streeter, (Superman), was already culling fish! Tom had found a strong pattern and had taken control of the competition. Once the teams could restart after the inclement weather had passed, everyone was playing catch-up. But Superman's lead was too strong! Tom weighed in five fish totaling 10lbs. and 2ozs. after an 8oz. dead fish penalty. We would like to congratulate Tom for his win tonight on Lake Lee. Join us next week as we wrap-up the month of July on Lake Lee. Until then...keep 'em hooked!
Thursday July 12th Lake Lee
The Carolina Crankers took a second swing at Lake Lee this week. After a storm shortened tournament last week, teams kept their eyes to the skies. Each afternoon the rain and heavy thunderstorms have taken their toll on the Monroe area. Not knowing whether tonight would be the same, anglers fished hard and fast to take quick limits. Having just returned from the beach, Ronnie Rushing joined his partner Mike Love to sack the Lake Lee lunkers. Batman and Robin are back! The pair managed just four fish this week but broke the scales with a hefty 15lbs. and 12ozs. Their bag was anchored by a 6lb. and 10oz. lunker! Congratulations Batman and Robin! Anglers will have another shot at beating Batman and Robin this week as the Carolina Crankers Weekend Series is also on Lake Lee this Saturday.
Thursday July 5th Lake Lee
The Carolina Crankers returned to Lake Lee this Thursday night. Blast-off came and went with anglers still waiting on shore. With temperatures over 100 degrees it seemed no one was in a hurry to melt in the scorching heat. By 6:15 a squall line had moved in on Monroe and brought with it severe storms. Teams scrambled to outrun the heavy lightning and seek shelter at the boathouse. By 7:15 teams believed the storms had moved to our south but were quickly chased back to the safety of the boathouse as the storm turned back on the small lake. All teams agreed that the risk was too great to continue. In what seemed like an hour long shoot-out, Harold Knight (Doc) had found the winning pattern. Harold hit the lake hard and fast bringing home a quick five fish limit. When the dust had settled, Doc weighed in 11lbs. and 5ozs. We would like to congratulate Harold Knight for his 1st place finish this week. Thank you to all our members that rode out the storms with us. Join us next Thursday night as we continue our Sportsmen's Series at Lake Lee.
Thursday June 28th Lake Monroe
After what has been the weakest month at Lake Monroe in the last three to four years, anglers are once again anxious to continue the series at Lake Lee. Union county's favorite lunker lake, Lake Monroe, has teams questioning their confidence! Known for heavy weights and monster bass, Lake Monroe has been very trying on competitors this month. June was the lightest month thus far in the 2012 season without a single double-digit result. Rounding out the month of June, Jonathan and Lindsey Cook have come on strong. Cookie and Shug have consistently placed near the top lately and tonight they earned their first Sportsmen's Series victory. The pair weighed in four Lake Monroe largemouth totaling 5lbs. and 2ozs. When asked how they felt about their first Thursday night victory, Cookie and Shug simply said "Bass Pro Shops tomorrow night!" The Carolina Crankers would like to congratulate Jonathan and Lindsey Cook. Great job! Join The Carolina Crankers next Thursday night on Lake Lee from 4:30pm to 8:30pm as we continue our Sportsmen's Series.
Thursday June 21st Lake Monroe
Batman and Robin continue to dominate the leader board this month at Lake Monroe. After falling just short three weeks ago as the Carolina Crankers returned to Lake Monroe, Mike Love and Ronnie Rushing have found a solid pattern to keep them on top. In one of the closest victories of the season, Batman and Robin went toe to toe with Jonathan and Lindsey Cook (Cookie and Shug) weighing three fish a piece. First place was decided by just 2 ounces. Batman and Robin claimed their second straight night series victory with a total of 7lbs. and 12ozs. We would like to congratulate Mike and Ronnie for this week's victory! Join us next week as we wrap up our June trip to Lake Monroe. Until then...keep 'em hooked!
Thursday June 14th Lake Monroe
Batman and Robin are back! This week the caped crusaders finally snagged that first Thursday night victory of the 2012 season. Mike Love and Ronnie Rushing were able to slip in undetected by the one-eyed lunker! After a loss by onces last week, the pair stood tall as they hoisted the 4lb. and 14oz. lunker on the scales! But seriously, Lake Monroe, as well as Lake Lee, continue to try even the most patient anglers. For those that haven't seen these waters this year, both lakes have taken that murky pea-green color that intimidates even the most confident fishermen. Our best advice is bring a snack, it might be the only bite you get! Congratulations Batman and Robin; it's time to start a streak! Join The Carolina Crankers next Thursday from 4:30pm to 8:30pm as we continue our weekly series on Lake Monroe.
Thursday June 7th Lake Monroe
The Carolina Crankers returned to Lake Monroe this Thursday night. Members were excited after giving the lake a month to "cool off" hoping that the big bite of early summer would be there to greet them. The bite wasn't there! Anglers hit summer hotspots looking for that lunker largemouth but were very surprised to see most of tonight's catches were still fanning beds or full of eggs. It seems unusual to be talking about the spawn in June! Obviously, the fish are on their own schedule! On a night that weigh-ins were decided by ounces, it was newcomers Eddie Hooks and Derrick Helms taking tonight's top spot. Eddie and Derrick managed three largemouth for a total of 5lbs. and 6ozs. Congratulations Eddie and Derrick! The Carolina Crankers would like to invite you to join us again soon! The Carolina Crankers Sportsman's Series continues next week on Lake Monroe. Until then...Keep 'em hooked!
Thursday May 31st Lake Lee
This week The Carolina Crankers say farewell to Lake Lee. After a month of Thursday night tournaments, the largemouth bite continues to be hit and miss. Though this is the end of May, anglers are still finding fish in the spawning stages. Lake warden Wes told members that the lake has seemed fickle all spring. Rounding out the month of May only took one fish this week. But she was a nice one! With this week's solo lunker, Tom Streeter and Justin Creed earned their new club names! Tom is now "Superman" and Justin, always the ladies man will be "Big Sexy." Big sexy told Superman he was sorry that he blanked because he was not able to make the Superman grunt that Tom used to wrestle a stump out of the water! That's alright Big Sexy, you can be my "netman" anytime laughed Superman! Congratulations Superman and Big Sexy for this week's victory with a 5lb. and 2oz. Lake Lee Lunker. The Carolina Crankers would like to thank Wes for letting us compete this month on Lake Lee. Join us next Thursday as we continue our Sportsman's Series on Lake Monroe. Until then...keep 'em hooked!
Thursday May 24th Lake Lee
The night belongs to the Knights! With one week remaining in our first month on Lake Lee, most teams are zeroing in on the pattern. Although late in the season, larger fish are still being found bedding in the shallows. Teams are hitting the shallows hard while others are searching nearby for the hungry bite of the post-spawn. This week it was the team of Harold Knight (Doc) and his son Shawn Knight (Hollywood) taking top honors with five Lake Lee largemouth. Doc and Hollywoods' best five totaled 11lbs. and 6ozs. Congratulations Harold and Shawn! We invite everyone to join us again next week as we finish our trip to Lake Lee. Until then...keep 'em hooked!
Thursday May 17th Lake Lee
The doctor is in! This week he didn't even have an assistant! With surgical precision, "Dr. Love" continued to pick apart the late spawn largemouth on Lake Lee. In his first back-to-back series stretch, Corey Love brought in two Lake Lee chunks weighing in at 8lbs. and 2ozs! A four pound average held its ground as Wayne Snyder and Darren Snyder hit the scales with a five fish limit. Wayne and Darren fell just ounces short with a total of 7lbs. and 10ozs. Congratulations Corey! Your "patient" will be waiting for you next Thursday night! Until then...keep 'em hooked!
Thursday May 10th Lake Lee
The Carolina Crankers continued their month long visit to Lake Lee this Thursday night. After two days of heavy showers and rainfall totals near 2 inches, anglers expected tough conditions. The late afternoon bite continued to hold strong for most teams. Starsky and Hutch tried to continue their Thursday night domination but fell just short this week. Taking home first place this week were Corey Love (Dr. Love) and J.D. Sowell (Babyface). Love and Babyface combined for a full limit totaling 11lbs. and 2ozs. We would like to congratulate Dr. Love and Babyface for their first victory of the 2012 season. Join us next week at Lake Lee as we continue our Sportsmans' Series. Until then...keep 'em hooked!
Thursday May 3rd Lake Lee
Wayne Snyder and Jeremy Pressley continue to dominate The Thursday Night Sportsmans' Series. Known to club members as Starsky and Hutch, the pair are on a roll that continued this week as the series headed to Lake Lee. Wayne and Jeremy have become the team to beat in our weeknight series scoring a first ever fourth back to back victory! In a gesture of respect, one team suggested we rename the series to "The Beat Wayne Snyder Series" All joking aside, Wayne and Jeremy consistently find the productive pattern each week. This week the pair weighed in 5 largemouth totaling 15lbs. and 0ozs. Great job Starsky and Hutch! Win number five is only a week away!
Thursday April 26th Lake Monroe
Wayne Snyder and Jeremy Pressley, better known as Starsky and Hutch, finished April with a bang! Teams have waited all month for Lake Monroe to produce heavy weight fish but the weather has stunted the early season bite. Starsky and Hutch accomplished a triple for the clubs first time on Thursday night. The pair joked that now that they're dialed in to the fish, we move to Lake Lee for the month of May! Wayne and Jeremy weighed in three largemouth totaling 11lbs. and 12ozs. As you can see, their bag was anchored by an 8lb. and 2oz. trophy! Great job guys and congratulations for the series first triple! Join us next Thursday as we compete on Lake Lee. Until then...keep 'em hooked!
Thursday April 19th Lake Monroe
Wayne Snyder and Jeremy Pressley (Starsky and Hutch) are on a roll. They weighed in four bass totaling 6lbs. and 14ozs. to secure back to back victories in our Thursday Night Sportsmen's Series. In what seems like a relentless string of midweek temperature crashes, Starsky and Hutch have managed to find and continue a strong bite. Known for its' heavyweight lunkers, Lake Monroe has put the Carolina Crankers teams to the test early this season. We will compete at Lake Monroe next Thursday night and then the series will move to Lake Lee for the month of May. Congratulations Wayne and Jeremy!
Thursday April 12th Lake Monroe
Congratulations to Wayne Snyder and Jeremy Pressley (Starsky and Hutch) for this week's win on Lake Monroe. The well seasoned team managed two fish totaling 3lbs. and 8ozs. Breathing a sigh of relief after missing a lunker with the net, Starsky and Hutch claimed their first weeknight victory this season. 14 members competed this Thursday with most teams managing only solo catches. Until then...keep 'em hooked!
Thursday April 5th Lake Monroe
Congratulations Mark Tarlton and Terry Benton (Taz and Cowboy) for winning this season's first Thursday Night Series tournament! The team had 4 largemouth weighing 8lbs. and 4ozs. Taz and Cowboy said we needed to call our club The Carolina Crazies because we always fish in the worst conditions. This week was no different with heavy rains and storms that have followed the club at every destination. The team had a strong performance catching fish early to secure this season's first Thursday Night Series victory! Join us next week as we continue our series on Lake Monroe. Until then...keep 'em hooked!
